All of their designs are artisan made in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. SPACES features their interiors along with rental possibilities outside of Mexico.
NOVEMBER:: Hotel Awasi Chile
Hotel Awasi in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Built in a 400-year-old adobe compound entirely of local materials (stone, straw and wood), Awasi is a leader in Andean eco-tourism. Better known for its luxurious cottages and regional cuisine, it was also the first hotel in Latin America to voluntarily offset 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions.
OCTOBER :: Tangier
Since 1921, Café Hafa in Tangier has been serving a special brew of mint tea on its twelve terraces. OCTOBER :: Shompole Lodge
Founded by Brit/Kenyan Anthony Russell, Shompole Lodge in Kenya is a partnership between the local Loodokilani Maasai and private investors (including the Ford Foundation and Christina Kim from the Dosa label). Shompole was chosen for the UN-sponsored 2006 Equator Prize for grassroots efforts to reduce poverty through the sustainable use of biodiversity and conservation. In less than 15 years, the local tribe will have majority ownership. The design is contemporary, with natural materials, white walls, water and minimalist lines. Russell's partner, Liz Gilbert, has worked with local Maasai women to create jewelry for the Shompole Collection.
